Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated on Wednesday 3rd September and a good number of devotees were present for the evening prayer where the statues to be immersed were consecrated:

On the following day (public holiday), like during the past years, the Visharjan ceremony (immersion) took place at Bain des Dames Cassis early morning. Have to admit that it really needed to be brave to go and immerse the statues in the cold waters of Bain des Dames in this chilly morning….

Swami Uma Kant Ji at Hindu Ekta

Our temple had the immense pleasure to welcome at its seat Swami Uma Kant Ji Maharaj from Haridwar on Thursday 28th August 08. Swami Ji came for a one and half hour session of Ramayana and katha.

The preaching and the messages from the Ramayana as interpreted by the Swami Ji were well received by the attentive audience. The bhajans by the Swami Ji and his group were also well appreciated.

It should be noted the Swami Uma Kant Ji Maharaj was in Mauritius for a couple of days for Ramayana sessions in temples across the island and came on the invitation of our priest, Acharya Yogesh Pathak (in the middle of picture below):

Swami Uma Kant Ji Maharaj left Mauritius on the following Saturday.

About Hindu Ekta

Hindu Ekta club was created in the late 1980's but was registered with the Registrar of Associations on 22nd August 1990. Its seat is at 10, Pouce Street Tranquebar Port Louis. It started its activities mainly as a sports club and a gathering place for a group of friends within the locality. Later on, it focussed much more on religious activities such that Hindu Ekta is now a fully fledged temple also known as the Shri Ram Hanuman Mandir. A first statue of a 6 feet Hanuman murthee was consecrated in 1997 and was followed, as years went by, with those of Durga Maa, Shivling and Shiv Parivaar, Ram Parivaar, Luxmi Narayan, Sai Baba, Radha Krishna and Ganesh.

Hindu Ekta never misses out on the big dates of the hindu calendar such as the organisation of the Char Peher ki Pooja for the Maha Shivratri festival, Ram Nawmi, Durga Pooja, Divali and Shrawaan Maas among others.


Other regular activities include weekly Shiv Abhishek on Mondays (morning and afternoon) and once monthly for Masik Shivratri, weekly kirtans and bhajan sessions on Fridays, monthly Hanuman Abhishek on the last Friday of each month and weekly kirtan/bhajan classes on Wednesdays.

Hindu Ekta is affiliated with the Mauritius Sanathan Dharma Temples Federation and participates regualarly in competitions, talks, seminars organised by the latter. It should be higlighed that Hindu Ekta came out 3rd in the Ramayana Chanting competition organised by the MSDTF at a National level in 2004.



Presently Hindu Ekta is comprised of more than 150 members and is made up of sub groups such as its Old-Age Group and the Women's League.
